The Tax Division is seeking an application developer to join its I.T. Division.

The chosen candidate will work with other developers, vendors, analysts, and end users in supporting, configuring, and developing applications for the integrated tax system (GenTax) and other Tax-specific applications.

Examples of work include but are not limited to:

  • Writes code in visualbasic.net, asp.net, and SQL, and will be required to learn the GenTax tool sets.
  • Analyzes the business rules required to process State taxes, then codes, configures, implements, and maintains those solutions and current processes as they related to the application systems. May work independently or as part of a team.
  • May be required to write code that will support the data interfaces with multiple input sources and output destinations from within and outside of State government, and to support websites and web applications.
  • Perform full system testing and prepare data flows, application flows, and system flows. Create system and user procedure documentation.

Performs related work as required.

The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of working with asp.net, visualstudio.net, and SQL, and familiar with working with relational databases such as SQL and Oracle as it pertains to using query statements for extracting ad hoc datasets.

Experience with extensible markup language (XML) and XML Schema Preparation is desirable.

The position will require the use of structured techniques and object-oriented techniques in design and implementation.

Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense.

Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered.

Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field including but not limited to business data programming, business systems analysis, computer accounting, computer and information systems, computer servicing technologies, information systems management, data processing, or computer engineering.
OR
An Associate's degree from an accredited college, university or business school in computer science or related field including but not limited to business data programming, business systems analysis, computer accounting, computer and information systems, computer servicing technologies, information systems management, data processing, or computer engineering and eighteen months of full-time or equivalent part-time paid computer programming experience in one or more programming or data base languages.
Substitution: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid computer programming experience in one or more programming or data base languages may substitute for the required training.

Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid computer programming experience in one or more programming or data base languages, including one year of analysis work.
