Job Description

Summary

This job involves handling administrative tasks for fire and aviation training programs in the Forest Service, such as managing office procedures, budgets, schedules, and files to support the team's operations.

Full Job Description

This position is assigned to the Region 6 Fire and Aviation Management unit in the Pacific Northwest.

This position is responsible for performing liaison duties for all administrative matters relating to individual Fire and Aviation Management Program Training Centers.

Specialized Experience Requirement: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Managing, reviewing, updating, and developing administrative office procedures; and/or Assisting with annual budget needs; and/or Maintaining a calendar, arranging travel, and scheduling appointments and meetings on behalf of supervisor; and/or Developing brief documents, reports, or presentations in support of work assigned; and/or Serving as the point of contact for routine correspondence and questions on assigned tasks or areas of work.

OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).

  • Manages the various administrative processes within the office and ensure that procedures meet office needs.
  • Monitors internal operations and ensures the establishment and maintenance of confidential, personnel, and administrative files.
  • Reviews and analyzes administrative policies, clarifies complex and confusing guidelines, and makes recommendations to higher level staff for changes to administrative policy.
  • Provides a variety of office and facilitation services essential to support the overall program effort, which may include grants and agreements, procurement, personal property, and travel.
  • Reviews, coordinates, and evaluates correspondence for adherence to proper procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Serves as the point of contact and liaison on budget-related issues
  • Coordinates fiscal year budgets by maintaining, reviewing, monitoring, and reconciling a variety of records through transaction registers, purchase orders, account records, and data from other financial control documents.
