Summary

This job involves leading a team of safety consultants who help businesses improve workplace safety through training, inspections, and program evaluations, focusing on OSHA standards in South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for planning and directing the work of OSHA Outreach and Education safety consultants who are engaged in consultation activities.
  • You will plan, assign, train, and supervise safety consultants, including assessing staff training needs.
  • You will conduct assigned safety consultation inspections to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • You will participate in Palmetto Star VPP audits and conduct or assist with fall protection demonstrations.
  • You will coordinate the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) and evaluate safety and health programs for manufacturing industries.
  • You will review and recommend the approval of consultation reports and ensure that corrective action is obtained from employers.
  • You will consult with and provide guidance to employers, organizations and other interested groups on complex technical issues.
  • You will perform other duties including, but not limited to, preparing and making speeches and webinars, representing the office with various functions, and providing additional support, review and guidance to OSHA Outreach and Education team members.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in occupational safety or environmental health programs.
  • Two (2) or more years of management experience.
  • Successful completion of the OSHA Officer training program.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal safety rules, laws and principles, methods and standards.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational safety and health programs and standards and the ability to calibrate and use field equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the general work process of retail, wholesale, commercial, manufacturing, and construction establishments.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with management, including organizations, labor and governmental officials.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in oral and written form; to make decisions in accordance with laws and regulations; and to interpret these laws and policies to employers.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
  • Must be physically able to navigate an industrial work site.
  • May require extended periods of driving, sitting, and visiting facilities that are non-ADA complaint.
  • May be required to wear a respirator.
  • May be required to pass a medical clearance and fit test for respirator use.
  • Occasional travel and overnight stays.
