Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing and ensuring the safe handling, maintenance, and compliance of nuclear weapons systems in the Navy, including coordinating with contractors and government teams to monitor operations on land and at sea.

A good fit would be someone with experience in regulatory oversight of high-stakes programs, strong attention to detail, and knowledge of safety protocols in sensitive military environments.

It requires working closely with experts to plan inspections, enforce standards, and respond to potential emergencies involving nuclear materials.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level in executing and reporting regulatory oversight for nuclear weapons systems or programs
  • Ability to manage and coordinate prime contractors, subcontractors, and government support for independent oversight of nuclear activities ashore and afloat
  • Expertise in program development, including planning, scheduling, execution, and reporting for nuclear weapons oversight in Navy field activities
  • Knowledge of Navy nuclear weapons surety execution, serving as subject matter expert for all facets of operations and maintenance
  • Skills in ensuring compliance with approved procedures by qualified personnel for nuclear weapons and systems operations
  • Experience in managing emergency response forces for radiological accidents based on installation capabilities and Department of the Navy requirements
  • Proficiency in day-to-day monitoring, standards enforcement, establishing inspection procedures, reviewing corrective actions, and analyzing trends in nuclear weapons activities

Full Job Description

You will serve as a PROGRAM ANALYST in the Oversight and Compliance Office 00B of STRATEGIC SYSTEMS PROGRAMS.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will manage and coordinate the efforts of prime and subcontractors as well as government support activities to ensure independent regulatory-quality oversight of nuclear weapons activities is executed ashore and afloat.
  • You will be responsible for program development including planning, scheduling, execution and reporting of the independent regulatory-quality oversight program for SSP and CNO at Navy's nuclear weapons capable field activities.
  • You will serve as the Oversight and Compliance Office, Pacific subject matter expert and technical authority for all facets of Navy nuclear weapons surety execution for SSP on all Navy nuclear weapons.
  • You will ensure nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons systems shore and Fleet unit operations and maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with approved procedures and by qualified personnel.
  • You will ensure initial emergency response forces, based on installation-specific capabilities, missions, and DON requirements for Nuclear Weapons Accident/Incident response are capable of dealing with the effects of a radiological accident on-site.
  • You will manage and perform day-to-day monitoring and standards enforcement of nuclear weapons activities at the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific and aboard nuclear weapons capable submarines in port.
  • You will establish and maintain inspection procedures and criteria, reviews corrective actions, assesses processes, and identifies, reports, and analyzes trends.
  • You will Instruct personnel in the standards, procedures, and conduct of Nuclear Weapons Technical Inspection (NWTI).
