This job involves helping run technical aspects of live performances and events for the City of Las Vegas, such as setting up lights, sound systems, scenery, and props in theaters and public spaces.
It supports city events like council meetings and cultural shows, while keeping equipment in good shape.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience as a stagehand who works well in a team, stays safe on the job, and can talk clearly with performers, staff, and visitors.
The ideal candidate has practical, real-world experience working as a stagehand in a live event or performance venue environment.
They are comfortable participating in load-ins, strikes, load-outs, changeovers, and working as a part of a backstage crew.
They will have general knowledge of audio, lighting, and video for live entertainment, with the willingness to gain specialized knowledge.
They understand, and utilize, basic life safety skills, follow established production practices, and are able to communicate clearly with a wide variety of people, including event staff, performers, vendors, and dignitaries.
This is the full journey level class within the Production Technician series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff.Eligible List: You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
Essential Functions
As assigned, sets up, installs, operates, and maintains all necessary equipment in Las Vegas City Hall for events and functions such as City Council meetings, Planning Commission meetings, department meetings, rentals and workshops.
Ensures the proper layout and upkeep of equipment used and send in equipment for repairs or recommend for replacement where needed.

Marginal Functions
Experience
Two years of professional technical experience working with performing arts programs.
Training
Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by training, certification or college level course work in theater lighting and production, or a field related to the essential functions.
License or Certificate
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion of an OSHA-10 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S.
Department of Labor.Must obtain valid CPR/AED certification, as well as city-approved First Aid certification, within 6 months of date of hire, and maintain thereafter.Must complete City of Las Vegas defensive driver training course within 6 months of date of hire, and maintain thereafter.
Knowledge of
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Various aspects of technical production and activities related to performing arts presentations including dance, theater, musical performance and performance arts.
Applied electricity and carpentry.
Principles and practices of lighting and sound design.
Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Operation of computers in relation to performance and presentation
Basic mathematical principles.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
