Full Job Description

You will serve as a Production Machinery Mechanic in the Facilities and Equipment Maintenance Division within FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUN MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, and performing common tasks as a Production Machinery Mechanic including: (1) Installing, aligning, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and testing machinery and equipment such as a numerically controlled five-axis machining center; 2) Applying working knowledge of machinery and mechanical principles to inspect and troubleshoot assigned machinery and equipment; 3) Reassembling and installing assigned machinery and equipment to maintain accurate alignments and precision tolerance between respective mating parts; and (4) Performing operational and functional tests of assigned machinery and equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.

Additionally, you work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • You will repair, maintain, install and overhaul a variety of complex multi-axis, multi-function production machinery and equipment.
  • You will install, align, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and test usually complex machinery and equipment.
  • You will troubleshoot machinery and equipment by applying in-depth working knowledge of machinery and mechanical principles and use of test equipment.
  • You will test equipment and isolate source of defective operation or cause of breakdown.
  • You will provide technical assistance and contribute to the task as a working member of the team.
  • You will ensure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • You will answer questions of workers on procedures, policies, instructions, or other directives.
  • You will accomplish other duties as assigned.
