The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Principal Technology Solutions Specialist.

Late applications will not be accepted. Other Duties/ Responsibilities Design and maintain a resilient, load-balanced Microsoft Exchange infrastructure across multiple datacenters.

Architect and support hybrid Exchange configurations with Microsoft 365, including mail flow, directory synchronization, and coexistence strategies.

Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation, monitoring, and reporting across Exchange and Active Directory environments.

Administer and optimize Active Directory, including OU structure, GPOs, replication, and domain controller health.

Utilize Quest Active Roles and related tools for identity management, delegation, and policy enforcement.

Build and maintain Splunk dashboards for real-time monitoring and analytics of Exchange and Active Directory performance, health, and security.

Implement and manage disaster recovery strategies for Exchange and related messaging components. Collaborate with network, security, and cloud teams to ensure secure and efficient messaging operations.

Provide Tier 3 support for Exchange-related incidents. Document architecture, procedures, and operational standards. Required Work Experience 8-10 years of related experience.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.

Desired Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange Server (2016/2019) in enterprise environments.

Proven expertise in hybrid Exchange deployments and Microsoft 365 integration. Strong architectural knowledge of load balancing, high availability, and datacenter failover strategies.

Advanced PowerShell scripting skills for automation and operational efficiency. Experience with Quest Active Roles and other identity management tools.

Proficiency in Splunk, including building dashboards and queries for Exchange and AD telemetry. Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance tuning for Exchange.

Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure. Strong documentation and communication abilities. Microsoft Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate or equivalent.

Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, and certificate management. Familiarity with compliance and retention policies in hybrid environments.

Background in enterprise-scale migrations or mergers involving messaging systems. Working Conditions This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate.

As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption.

In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday, or while the Senate is in session.

As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays.

Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Sedentary with extended periods of sitting and standing. Security Clearance This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance. Major Duties:

Deploys and upgrades software solutions and operating systems, implementing system and server modifications to meet the needs of the organization.

Conducts compatibility evaluations of new software versions for applications supported by other CIO groups to ensure no adverse impact to the operating system or other applications.

Leads market research, evaluation, design, and implementation of technology solutions to meet business requirements.

Monitors the impact of technological developments, identifies emerging technologies, and scopes potential Senate utility.

Leads cross organizational teams in communication, documentation, design, deployment, governance, and ongoing support of complex IT systems.

Develops and maintains technical support documentation, standard operating procedures, and participates in Change Management.

Serves as the highest-level internal escalation point for issues affecting supported solutions. As necessary, works with external vendors to solve problems that cannot be resolved internally.
