Key Requirements

  • Demonstrated national leadership in ocean science, autonomous systems, and undersea warfare (USW) ranges, including requirements definition, system development, and program management
  • Expertise in technical management of research, development, test, evaluation, and acquisition systems, with skills in risk assessment, team collaboration, and problem resolution
  • Experience as a recognized expert in autonomous systems, ocean sciences, and USW range technologies, such as high-frequency acoustics, optics, and magnetic sensors
  • Ability to develop, prototype, and analyze R&D solutions in undersea range technology, including advanced sensors, physics-based modeling, and electronic maneuver technology
  • Oversight of research in design, development, analysis, and impact of autonomous undersea vehicle technologies
  • Proficiency in developing, maintaining, and operating undersea ranges, test sites, and facilities for live, virtual, constructive testing, modeling, simulation, and analysis to support fleet readiness
  • Qualifications in professional engineering (GS-0800 series) or computer science (GS-1550 series), with relevant paid or unpaid experience

Full Job Description

You will serve as Principal Technical Manager for the OCEAN SCIENCE, AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS AND RANGES DEPARTMENT (Code 75) at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport in Newport, Rhode Island.

National Leadership in Ocean Science, Autonomous Systems and USW Ranges: Ability to provide national leadership and authoritative technical direction for comprehensive technical programs in ocean science, autonomous systems, and USW ranges and range technology, including requirements definition, system development, systems and platform engineering, rapid prototyping, test and evaluation, modeling and simulation (M&S), In-Service engineering/Fleet engagement, and program management.

TQ 2.

Reputation for Technical Management of Research, Development, Test, Evaluation and Acquisition Systems: Skill in technical management providing guidance, risk identification/mitigation assessments, teaming collaborations, and problem resolution for strategies, analyses, policies, security plans, cross department initiatives, or cross-command/organization efforts.

  • You will serve as the recognized expert in a broad scope of autonomous systems, ocean sciences, and Undersea Warfare Center (USW) range technologies such as new sensors based in high frequency acoustics, optics, and magnetic fields.
  • You will develop, prototype and analyze Research and Development solutions in the areas of undersea range technology (advanced USW sensor technology, advanced physics-based modeling, electronic maneuver technology).
  • You will oversee research in design, development, analysis and impact of autonomous behavior of undersea vehicle technology programs.
  • You will develop, maintain, and operate facilities, undersea ranges and test sites to assure live, virtual, constructive, modeling, simulation, testing, and analysis capabilities are available to support Fleet readiness needs.
  • You will deliver new advanced capability or disruptive technology that quickly and significantly advances future naval warfighting capabilities into the Fleet.
