The Plumber position is located within the Facilities Management service of the VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS).
Incumbent receives specific work assignments, written or verbal, and responsible for following each task through to completion.
Incumbent periodically checks piping, valves, fittings, and other plumbing fixtures for defects in connection with the organization maintenance schedule.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Major Duties:
Major duties include, but are not limited to: Disassembles and repairs damaged sections or fabricates replaces, following specifications on defective parts.
Directs or performs the assembling of lead pipe sections and fittings, and the hanging or laying of the assemblies into position.
Estimates necessary materials, such as pipe, fittings, and fixtures needed. Locates and marks spots through which pipes are to pass. Works from blueprints or drawings. Improves new systems when needed.
Places and connects sewage, water fixtures and facilities, such as hydrants water mains, water closets, lavatories, dishwashers, water pumps, vacuum pumps, and other dietetic equipment.
Install and maintain special water systems, such as, reverse osmosis and deionized systems for special applications. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Plumber/PD07117A Physical Requirements: The tasks performed involve planning and layout, assembly and installation and the more skillful techniques of the trade, such as repacking valves, installing hot water heaters, repairing water pumps.
Must be able to stoop, kneel, work with hands overhead, lift and use arm muscles tightening connections.
Duty Station: Jefferson Barracks Division; however, the duty station may be changed to one of multiple locations within the VA St. Louis Health Care System based on the needs of the facility.
