The Department of General Services (DGS) is currently seeking an experienced Plumber 1 for our Energy Resource Management Office, High Voltage Section.

In this important role, you will have the opportunity to provide initial response and review to resolve facility piping system issues, take steps to mitigate building or facility damages and identify any deficiencies.

Requirements

An employee in this position performs maintenance, inspections, repairs, replacement, and installation work on plumbing and piping systems, components and fixtures for air, gas, oil, water, steam, irrigation, waste disposal, and other related systems within DGS owned or managed facilities. Work is performed independently and may include assisting a higher-level trades person or supervisor with more complex assignments. In addition, work also includes mitigating and responding to facility emergencies during normal business hours and after-hours.

In this role, it is essential to adhere to department safety protocols, ensure lower-level trades personnel adhere to department safety protocols and identify any safety concerns to supervisor. The employee also participates in the performance of other trades’ tasks, including lower-level trades’ tasks, consistent with operational and organizational requirements. This position requires the employee to operate motor vehicle or other self-propelled equipment when requested.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Essential Employee– Required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing components and fixtures; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.


Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing and able to work in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience replacing/repairing water mains
