Requirements

The Land Development Division provides technical review and oversight of land development applications, manages performance and erosion and sediment control bonds, maintains land development records, provides professional guidance to other County agencies related to land development, and provides exemplary customer service.

Planning Technicians play a key role in the land development process in Loudoun County. This position serves as the gatekeeper for hundreds of land development applications in a year and the Planning Technicians ensure that each meets regulatory minimum standards. They begin the record-keeping process and are the primary point-of-contact for the development community for incoming development projects. As Planning Technicians gain experience, they often participate in the plat review process and may eventually be assigned their own projects to manage under the supervision of the professional planning staff. Planning Technicians also play a critical customer service role. Planning Technicians are responsible for intake and processing of queries from the public via various communication channels and for organizing responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. With training and experience, Planning Technicians are often the front-line staff helping citizens with complex land development questions. In addition, Planning Technicians support the Department by performing tasks with the Bonds Management Team, the Management and Budget Team, and other Departments.

The successful candidate must have superior customer service skills, the ability to navigate an intricate land development process, and aptitude to perform a multitude of administrative and entry level professional planning tasks. The chosen candidate must have strong and effective written and verbal communication skills and intermediate skills in using computers, and Microsoft Office. Strong organizational skills, the ability to be a reliable team member and the ability to work independently are musts for this position. Knowledge and experience of the planning profession is a plus.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience in a government setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information

This position requires a valid driver’s license, driving record, credit, and criminal background checks.
