This job involves planning and estimating rigging projects for shipyard maintenance and repairs, ensuring safe handling of heavy loads with equipment like cranes and slings.

You will serve as a PLANNER & ESTIMATOR (RIGGER) in the RIGGING AND OPERATIONS DIVISION (CODE 740), LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO PROVIDE PRODUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES: Planning and accounting for the safe handling of loads, compliance of safety, and proper alignment of resources and material to avoid delays.
Coordinating with vendors to obtain quotes, evaluate options, and plan delivery of equipment and material.
Utilizing broad expert level understanding of rigging standards, regulations and use of equipment such as slings, hoist, pulleys, and cranes.
Applying trade background knowledge to determine proper sequence of work, assist trade requirements, manpower, equipment, and material required.
Reading and interpreting plans, blueprints, drawings, specifications, sketches, test memorandums, and similar documents.
