Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a pipefitter in a naval shipyard, where you'll install, repair, and maintain piping systems on ships and submarines, including steam lines and nuclear support equipment.

You'll use blueprints and plans to layout and fix these systems with minimal supervision.

It's a great fit for experienced tradespeople skilled in hands-on mechanical work in industrial or maritime settings.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to perform pipefitting work independently without more than normal supervision (screen-out element)

  • Experience with flexible hose inspection, manufacturing, and testing
  • Familiarity with nuclear work procedures and basic trade knowledge for repairs on nuclear support systems
  • Meet OPM Job Qualification Handbook standards for trades and labor occupations

Full Job Description

You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the Production and Resources Department of PSNS and IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will be performing shop, ship, and submarine pipe work using ships plans, blue prints, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment.
  • You will be making repairs on ships and submarines on steam generated equipment.
  • You will be installing and maintaining steam supply and return lines, both high and low pressure steam traps, steam reducing valves, and control valves.
  • You will be responsible for flexible hose inspection, manufacturing, and testing.
  • You will be deciphering nuclear work procedures and using basic trade knowledge to accomplish repairs on nuclear support systems.
