Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities & the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Performs a variety of pipefitter tasks including installing, replacing, or repairing various pipes, shut-off valves, joints, unions, flanges, safety valves, ceiling or wall radiators, and other fixtures.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision.

Must possess the ability to perform common duties including Pipefitter duties such as installing, replacing, repairing various pipes, shut-off valves, joints, unions, flanges, and safety valves.

I can adjust die to cutter or threader, measure, cut, and thread lengths of pipe. Remove, assemble, lay, or hang pipe.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee often works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms where parts of systems are in hard-to-reach places.

The incumbent may be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be required to lift and carry heavy items.

All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device.

The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather.

There is considerable exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and temperature extremes. The employee may also be exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections.

The employee performs duties that may involve the handling and/or removal of friable and non-friable asbestos. Major Duties:

  • Install and repair pipes and fixtures to ensure proper functionality.
  • Prepare and assemble pipe systems to precise specifications and requirements.
  • Modify structures for pipe installations while ensuring structural integrity and design compliance.
  • Adjust steam lines to optimize system performance and prevent damage.
  • Manage tools and materials by tracking inventory, maintaining records, repairing equipment, and ensuring stock accuracy to support efficiency.
