Summary

This job involves installing, modifying, and repairing piping systems in naval facilities, ensuring everything is properly routed, pitched, and tested for leaks or issues.

  • Competence in operating hand and power tools such as hydraulic benders, presses, power saws, drills, threaders, and cutters
  • Relevant paid or unpaid experience in trades and labor occupations, including volunteer work that builds piping skills

Full Job Description

You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the Public Works of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

This position is being recruited for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and may subsequently be realigned under the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC).

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

  • You will install, modify, and repair systems by setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, and placing hangers for correct pitch and elevation.
  • You will interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of different piping systems and equipment.
  • You will inspect and test systems for damage, leaks, and blockages in lines, expansion joints, valves and traps.
  • You will operate hand and power tools (e.g., hydraulic benders, presses, power saws, drills, threaders, cutters) to install or repair piping systems.
