Full Job Description

The VAMC in Louisville, KY is recruiting for a Physician Assistant III (PA) assigned in the Office of the Chief of Staff to perform duties as Deputy Chief Health Informatics Officer (Deputy CHIO).

The position occupies the role of Deputy Chief Health Informatics Officer and oversees the comprehensive supervision of both professional and administrative facets, as well as the personnel within the data analytics department.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience: 2 years progressive leadership in healthcare informatics. Evidence of change management skills, process improvement and large-scale implementations.

Physical Requirements: Moderate Lifting (15-25 lbs); Moderate Carrying (15-25 lbs); Straight Pulling {up to 2-3 hours); Pushing (up to 2-3 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Walking (up to 1-2 hours); Kneeling (up to 1 -2 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 to 2 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable; Far vision correctable; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Major Duties:

The physician assistant-informaticist will be intimately involved with organizational data, and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Support all processes requiring health IT support.

Maximize the use of IT in the clinical environment by using the capability of the VA clinical information systems to assist practitioners in doing the right things for the right patients at the right time.

Ensure adequate support to measurably improve the quality of data and the transfer of clinical information between providers.

Ensure quality information is available to the patients and to their health care practitioner.

Plan and execute computer hardware/software development to meet patient care needs, and ensure optimal computer use Evaluate clinical computing systems; analyze and evaluate the effect of interventions on health outcomes.

Acting as liaison between clinical staff, VISN and VA's Office of Information and Technology (OI&T), and as such, identifying and articulating the needs of and monitoring how well those needs are being met.

Implementing informatics-related policies and procedures, including nationally approved Health Information System configurations as well as local implementation and configuration of nationally developed software.

Ensuring the delivery of timely, appropriate and relevant end user training. Chairing and/or participating in Informatics-related councils, committees and other groups as may be necessary.

Communicating Health Informatics issues to leadership. Defining performance, reliability and availability requirements of Health Information Systems.

Expand and enhance patient access to patient information through the various initiatives, and further the effective and efficient use of medical information systems for patients.

Support optimal use of EHR Use available tools to provide data to management for strategic and operative planning and employ such data to guide management decisions.

The Physician Assistant III functions as a PA and clinical informaticist in accordance with established protocols, VA regulations, and State and Federal laws governing physician assistants.

The Deputy CHIO is under the supervision of the Chief Health Informatics Officer, and assumes the duties of the CHIO when necessary and directed to do so.
