The primary purpose of this position is: Serves as the Deputy Program Director of the United States Air Force Tactical Sports and Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (TSOMPT) Fellowship and as the recognized expert for the Line of the Air Force Physical Therapy positions in the Air Force.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Employee must be able to receive/maintain regular privileges/medical staff appointment at the 10th Medical Group as a physical therapist by the facility credentials office, to include participation in ongoing peer review IAW AF guidance.
Employee must have and maintain FAAOMPT credential (Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists).
Employee with least 3 years of clinical Dry Needling experience and experience instructing dry needling techniques is highly desired.
Experience as a physical therapist in a Special Operations, Special Warfare and/or Tactical unit is highly desired.
A minimum of two years teaching experience in an accredited Orthopaedic Manual or Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship and/or Orthopedic or Sports Physical Therapy Residency is highly desired.
Teaching experience within the past five years in an entry-level Physical Therapy Degree program and/or teaching continuing education courses is highly desired.
Ability to perform frequent, considerable, and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting of heavy objects over 23 kilograms and long periods of standing and/or walking (NCAA Division 1 Athletics practice and competition coverage with Fellows).
Must be willing to accept risks inherent to covering NCAA Division 1 Athletics practices and competitions in a high altitude environment.
Environmental risk factors include low temperatures with high winds from October to March, extremely high incidences of local lightening strikes, snow and hail storms.
Risk factors inherent to covering NCAA Division 1 Athletics include working on the edge of the practice and competition environments with high risk of collision with players and being struck with high velocity objects such as balls and pucks.
Must be willing and able to travel by ground and air in order to provide sports coverage and Fellow mentoring during away competitions and events.
In order to qualify, you must meet the SPECIALIZED experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions +IOR for the GS-0633 Series.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a major study that included or was supplemented by (1) a physical therapy curriculum approved by a recognized professional accrediting organization (CAAHEP) at the time the curriculum was completed, and (2) the clinical affiliation requirements prescribed by the school.

AND Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State or a territory of the United States and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (external link) (FSBPT).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes: Professional knowledge of, and expert skill in applying, complex concepts, principles, and methodologies of the therapeutic field sufficient to perform research to expand knowledge in one or more areas of physical rehabilitation; evidence-based practice, best practice protocols, and quality assurance programs; Professional knowledge of, and expert skill in applying complex physical therapy education principles and practices sufficient to develop specialty trained physical therapist and consult and practice with a variety of other professionals to treat medically complex Special Warfare Airmen in an independent manner; Professional knowledge of, and expert skill in developing, testing and advising on new approaches, theories and methods in orthopedic physical therapy interventions to prevent onset, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional limitations that result in injuries and conditions that tactical airmen encounter from physically demanding work; Professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range of concepts, principles, and methodologies of the therapeutic field sufficient to perform advanced techniques to identify existing or potential problems resulting from trauma, disease or other causes; and deviate from existing treatment methods, procedures, or techniques to resolve difficult or complex problems.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, an extensive range of concepts, principles, and methodologies of the Physical Therapy field to perform advanced techniques to examine, diagnose, and treat neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disease/pathology, impairment, and functional limitations resulting from trauma, disease, or other causes; determine complex risk factors and behaviors that may impede optimal functioning; and adapt existing treatment methods, procedures, or techniques to resolve difficult or complex problems.

Knowledge of the etiology, pathoanatomy, pathophysiology, pathomechanics, and manifestations of the full range of organic and functional physical disorders, their causes, and complicating factors contributing to the overall impairment and functional limitation.

Knowledge of health delivery and support services in order to work as an integral member of patient care teams; work effectively with other health professionals, paraprofessionals, and support staff; consult with other specialists to effectively deliver patient services.

Knowledge of contemporary rehabilitation theories, neurological and orthopaedic evaluations, spinal and extremity manipulation/mobilization to apply evidence-based reasoning to develop a comprehensive therapeutic treatment program.

Ability to guide, train, and mentor physical therapy interns/doctoral students, enlisted physical medicine technicians, resident/intern physicians, clinical nurses, and/or other Special Warfare team members.

Leads, manages, plans, directs, evaluates, and delegates the ongoing development, evaluation, and operation of the USAF TSOMPT Fellowship.
Provides overall guidance to manage, plan, direct, and evaluate the ongoing national and international standards, national accreditation and external auditing of the USAF TSOMPT Fellowship.
Utilizes a wide range of concepts, principles, and methodologies of the therapeutic field to provide examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome assessment for Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries.
