Job Description

Summary

This job involves advising on electronic security systems and physical protection for Army sites and other federal agencies, including evaluating vulnerabilities, recommending fixes, and providing training on security measures.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in security systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to explain complex topics to teams, especially those already working in government or defense roles.

About the Position: Serve as the Physical Security Specialist within the Electronic Security Branch of the Mechanical Electrical Division, Engineering Directorate, at the Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, AL.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) recommending methods to apply Electronic Security Systems (ESS) in compliance with regulatory guidance to enhance overall physical security; 2) conducting security training sessions and briefings; 3) developing and/or implementing national-level standards, guidelines, and policies for ESS within major security programs; and 4) advising commands on the development and evaluation of long-range studies and requirements for physical security equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Major Duties:

  • Provide expert guidance on electronic security systems (ESS) and physical security to Army divisions, installations, and other federal agencies.
  • Conduct site evaluations and audits, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend corrective actions to meet security standards and policies.
  • Evaluate new or upgraded security system designs, approve testing procedures, and monitor installations to ensure systems meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Deliver training and briefings on security systems, policies, and procedures, both locally and through mobile teams, including international locations.
  • Track security deficiencies, coordinate contractor submissions, develop operational guidance, and participate in special studies and technical forums to enhance security programs.
  • Advise Army and federal organizations on electronic and physical security systems, resolving complex technical and operational challenges.
