Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting a pharmacy in a remote health service location by handling drug orders, managing inventory, filling prescriptions, and keeping everything organized and clean to help provide care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

It's a hands-on role where you'll work closely with pharmacists using computers and equipment to ensure patients get the right medications safely.

A good fit would be someone with pharmacy experience who is detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about community health service.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience in pharmacy settings (e.g., hospital, retail, or labs) equivalent to GS-5 level, including knowledge of drug nomenclature, dosages, and storage procedures
  • Experience in pharmaceutical procurement, inventory management, and receiving drug shipments
  • Skills in filling prescriptions using automated dispensing equipment and calculating doses to match physician orders
  • Ability to enter drug information accurately into computerized patient medical charts
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining pharmacy equipment, plus assisting with cleanliness of storage areas
  • Optionally, 6 months of graduate education (9 semester hours) directly related to pharmacy work, or a combination of education and experience totaling 100% of requirements

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience For positions at GS-6 and above: Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories.

Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of: Pharmaceutical nomenclature; Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following experience and/or education is required to qualify for this position.

For GS-6 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing pharmaceutical procurement and inventory management.

Filling prescriptions utilizing automated dispensing equipment. Calculating doses to match the physician's order with pharmacy stocks and filling prescriptions.

OR Successfully completed 6 months (9 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position.

OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-06 grade level.

Enters the correct drug, strength, dosage form and quantity into the patient's computerized medical chart.

Assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions (i.e., typing, filling prescriptions in written and oral forms, etc.).

Operates and cares for various pharmacy equipment; assists pharmacy staff in maintaining cleanliness of main pharmacy, pharmacy storage, and other drug storage areas.
