This job opportunity is located in the Document Services Branch (DSB), National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, IN.
This position operates, monitors, and adjusts various peripheral devices and systems, in support of the large-scale computer systems to prepare a variety of material for mailing.
The individual selected for this position will: Reading and interpreting job specifications; Performing machine setup and adjustments for various print/bindery equipment.
Inspecting finished products for accuracy and quality; Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Following safety guidelines; Troubleshooting minor mechanical issues; Performing routine operator preventative maintenance tasks.
Working in a team atmosphere to meet productivity goals; Packing and preparing orders for mailing/shipment.
Adjust equipment, observe defective tape or paper, clear jams; Correct malfunctions when possible.
REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements: This position requires substantial standing for extended periods of time and frequent pushing and pulling of bins, warehouse trucks or postal containers to other processing locations.
The work requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching and walking while handling printed materials, paper and other components.
The employee lifts, on a recurring basis, a variety of moderately heavy materials and supplies (approximately 30 pounds) such as boxes of forms, record boxes, boxes of cards and envelopes.
Rarely, the employee may be required to lift heavy (over 50 pounds) items such as mailbags or large stacks of paper stock. The work is repetitive, fast paced and done in an assembly line atmosphere.
Procedures and policies are established for jogging and flipping material, checking for completeness and print quality.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in well-lighted areas, with adequate to very poor ventilation.
Operator is subject to cuts, bruises, shocks or possible damage to extremities during high-speed operation.
Environment is noisy, hot or cold, and may be dusty, dirty or smelly during operations or clean-up procedures.
