Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation involves helping with hands-on maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and buildings in Allegheny County, such as fixing tires, changing fluids, and assisting with repairs.

It's a full-time summer role from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, where you'll work under supervision but use your own judgment on tasks.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on automotive fleet equipment, including changing light bulbs, hoses, clamps, filters, tires, batteries, and checking fluid levels
  • Assist mechanics with complex repairs on engines, heating/cooling systems, transmissions, clutches, brakes, hydraulic systems, and basic body work
  • Support storeroom operations by retrieving parts as needed
  • Maintain and repair buildings and grounds
  • Work under general supervision, exercise independent judgment on repair needs and methods based on work orders
  • Provide daily updates to supervisor on equipment status and notify upon task completion
  • Be available for seasonal full-time schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday, no telework

Requirements

In this position, you will undertake a range of responsibilities that include performing routine maintenance on automotive fleet equipment, such as changing light bulbs, hoses, clamps, filters, and tires, as well as replacing or recharging batteries and checking fluid levels.

You will also assist mechanics with more complex repairs, including engine rebuilds, heating and cooling systems, transmissions, clutches, brake systems, and hydraulic systems, along with conducting basic body repair work.


Additionally, you will support the storeroom operations by retrieving parts as necessary and contribute to the maintenance and repair of the building and grounds.

Working under general supervision, you will exercise independent judgment regarding repair needs and methods after receiving work orders that outline specific issues.

It is essential to provide daily updates to your supervisor on the status of the equipment you are responsible for and to promptly inform them when a task is completed.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
