Requirements

As an Equipment Operator Trainee with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will be integral to maintaining the safety and functionality of our roadways, particularly during the demanding winter months when effective snow plowing is crucial.

Your role encompasses not only snow removal but also significant contributions to various construction projects, where your expertise directly influences the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public.

Each day presents unique challenges that require physical labor, underscoring the importance of collaboration and commitment among team members.

Beyond operating heavy machinery, you will also be responsible for performing minor repairs and conducting routine preventative maintenance on your equipment and trucks.

This position requires diligent record-keeping, as you will complete daily logs and reports to monitor equipment usage and maintenance history.

Such documentation is essential for ensuring operational efficiency and promoting accountability within the team.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule is subject to change due to weather and seasonal requirements.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit on the first day of work.
• This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of work.
• This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
