Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is hiring several Seasonal - Facility Maintenance Worker I employees to support the Evergreen Fair Park, Grounds Mow Crew, Ballfields Grooming, and Stormwater Drainage. This position pays $26.817 per hour.

Facility Maintenance Worker I supports Parks and Fair Park Maintenance, starting as early as March 1, 2026, and creating an Eligibility Register to fill future openings through October 31, 2026.

You will be assigned to work on a crew performing a variety of duties which may include routine grounds keeping, building maintenance and event support at the Evergreen Fair Park, or supporting routine facility maintenance and mowing support for over 120 Snohomish County parks and trail system.

Your strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to provide excellent customer service to the public will make you successful in this role.

Candidates should be comfortable working outside and working in a park’s customer service environment. You must have a valid State of Washington Driver's License. Duties assigned will include:

  • Sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and trails; cleaning and preparing facilities for scheduled events to include the Evergreen State Fair, pressure washing buildings, shoveling, and spreading mulch, gravel and soils and being an ambassador of Snohomish County to the community.
  • Mows, edges, trims, and water lawns.
  • Weeds flower beds; trims trees and plants; waters and fertilizes a variety of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees; and
  • Stormwater drainage system vegetation management, catch basin inspection and repair.
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of light trucks and maintenance equipment.

Eligibility Register Once all positions are filled an Eligibility Register will be created which will expire on 10/31/2026.

This seasonal position pays $26.817 per hour and is typically scheduled for 40 hours per week, and you may be eligible for overtime in accordance with the bargaining agreement.

Requirements

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment such as single axle trucks and trailers, forklifts, and operates tractors to perform surface maintenance, including dragging equestrian arenas. Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required.
  2. Performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels, lubricating, and adjusting equipment as necessary. Track hours of equipment usage and report when approaching maintenance intervals.
  3. Performs a variety of routine grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming lawns, watering and weeding flower beds, raking, pick and shovel work, and using a variety of small power tools.

    May perform pesticide application under the license of a senior-level facilities maintenance worker.

  4. Performs a variety of specialized ballfield maintenance tasks such as grooming, marking, etc.
  5. Performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks such as cleaning and stocking restrooms, cleaning floors, and setting up facilities for a variety of meetings and events, clean up after meetings and events, and garbage and litter pickup. 
  6. Paints a variety of interior and exterior building surfaces, fixtures, and furniture; prepares surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, washing, and filling as necessary; mixes paints, stains, varnishes, epoxies, and other protective coating as required; applies paint or other protective coatings to the surface being finished using brushes, rollers, and/or spray-painting equipment.
  7. Fills out records and reports as necessary.
  8. Supports the annual fair at the Evergreen State Fair Park, working days before, during, and after to support the event.

STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES

  1. May assist in a variety of different building and construction trades and may be asked to perform basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance work; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job-related tests. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SEASONAL
High school diploma or GED required, previous experience in grounds and parks maintenance is desired, OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card within one (1) year of employment.
  • A written and practical field test may be required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
The work involves a variety of manual labor tasks requiring some strenuous physical effort, such as lifting objects weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

SUPERVISION
Employees report to Facility Lead worker or follow the direction of a senior level facilities maintenance worker as assigned. The work is performed under general supervision and may be spot checked to ensure timely completion and compliance with instructions, procedures, and standards. Specific instructions are given for unusual or nonroutine tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather at work sites throughout the county. The work may involve working at considerable heights.. Employees are exposed to a variety of hazards such as working near traffic, around heavy equip­ment, and are exposed to dust fumes, hazardous chemicals and inclement weather.
Employees are subject to call out to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to ensure the safety of the public or en­sure the integrity of department owned property, shift work may be required of some positions.
