  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including evenings and weekends, with no shift guarantee

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, enforces City of Detroit parking ordinances in assigned patrol areas.

Requirements

  • Enforce City of Detroit parking ordinances and regulations.
  • Patrol an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle.
  • Operate hand-held computerized devices.
  • Place/remove immobilization devices on/from vehicles.
  • Operate camera and video equipment in conjunction with the immobilization of vehicles. 
  • Operate two-way communications equipment. 
  • Complete departmental forms and records.
  • Respond to the public’s questions and refer complex matters to appropriate departmental personnel.
  • Testify in court proceedings, as required.
  • Participate in automobile auction detail.
  • Participate in departmental citizen assistance programs.

Qualifications

High School graduation or G.E.D.

SHIFTS FOR TRAINING:

TRAINING WEEK 1 8am to 4:30pm

TRAINING WEEK 2 8am to 4:30pm

TRAINING WEEK 3 10am to 6:30pm

TRAINING WEEK 4 10am to 6:30pm

TRAINING WEEK 5 1:30pm to 10pm

TRAINING WEEK 6 1:30pm to 10pm

Based on seniority, new hires may begin on the Tuesday through Saturday, 1:30pm to 10pm shift. We will expand enforcement to a 7-day operation in the very near future.

Licenses, Certifications, & Other Special Requirements:

Valid State of Michigan Operator License; will be required to operate City-owned vehicle. Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.

Physical Demands

The employee generally engages in light to strenuous physical activity which include continuous walking on pavement and concreate, standing and bending for an extended period of time. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an outdoor environment with potential exposure to conditions which may include fumes, extreme heat and cold, wetness, loud noise, dust, inclement weather and hazardous chemicals.

Some work requires travel to meetings, conferences, and other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

  3. Evaluation of CBT, Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 50%
  4. Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 50%
  5. Additional points may be awarded for:

Veteran Points: 0 – 15 points
