Career OpportunityThe city of Las Vegas invites applications for Park Maintenance Field Supervisor.
This position supervises, assigns and reviews the work of staff responsible for park maintenance; oversees and participates in all work activities; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; oversees and enforces public landscape related contracts.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives direction from higher level supervisory or management staff.
Acts as a formal supervisor, exercising direct supervision, including selecting new employees, monitoring and formally evaluating employee performance, and participating in the discipline and termination of employees.
A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas.
The examination for this recruitment will be a written examination, weighted 100%, and will be used to place candidates on the eligible list.
The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.

ELIGIBLE LIST: You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
Essential Functions:
Recommends and assists in the implementation of division goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Assists with the annual development and submission of business plan measures.
Prepares and presents monthly performance statistics and reports. Recommends and implements approved policies and procedures.
Marginal Functions:
Experience:
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal park grounds and facilities, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.
Training:
Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized course work or training in grounds maintenance, building maintenance or a related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Possession and maintenance of a Work Zone Safety Certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association within one year of the date of appointment.
Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion within the last five years of an OSHA-30 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S.
Department of Labor. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in this classification.
Knowledge of:
Operations, services and activities of a municipal landscaped grounds and facilities maintenance, installation, renovation and repair program.
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Current office procedures, methods, computer equipment and common office software packages.
Materials, methods, practices and equipment used in municipal park facilities installation, renovation, maintenance and repair activities.
Landscape installation and renovation techniques.
Principles and practices of ornamental horticulture.
Planting mixtures and fertilization requirements.
Plant pests and diseases and methods of control.
Chemicals and sprays commonly used for plant and grounds care and their proper application.
Applicable occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
