Full Job Description

The function of this position is to provide Lead worker oversight to the Newberry Major Maintenance Unit located at the Newberry Field Office. The position also functions to provide high quality recreation opportunities to the public and to preserve and protect the natural and historic resources within the assigned work area. This position will oversee and participate in the day-to-day operations of this unit including 34 boat access sites, 5 State Forest Campgrounds, 3 ORV trailheads, and 3 pathways, in compliance with Department & Division policies, procedures and standardized practices. The Major Maintenance Unit also performs minor and major construction & maintenance functions within the EUP District and statewide including boating, State Park or other Department properties as directed by the Unit Manager or District Supervisor.
This position requires that the employee possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Requirements
EducationEducational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
ExperienceThree years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger E8.
Qualifications
Completion of at least 8 semester (12 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for one year of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.
Completion of at least 15 semester (22 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for two years of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.
Additional Information
Some positions may require commission by the Department of Natural Resources to enforce state parks rules and state laws as specified in Public Act 451 of 1994.
Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
