This job involves providing urgent medical care to people who are sick, injured, or in critical condition, especially during emergencies and while transporting them to hospitals as part of the Nashville Fire Department.
Paramedics respond to calls, assess situations, treat patients on the spot, drive ambulances, and maintain equipment.
It's a great fit for someone who stays calm under pressure, has strong physical stamina, and is passionate about helping others in life-threatening situations.
Responds to incidents requiring emergency medical care.Determines the nature and extent of the injury or illness.Establishes priority for required emergency care as outlined in state regulations.Renders advanced emergency care.Lifts and moves patients as necessary for treatment and transportation to medical facilities.Operates emergency medical apparatus and equipment.Records patient information.Establishes radio communications with hospital emergency department personnel or on-line medical controlDrives ambulance as needed.Maintains inventory of medical equipment and supplies.Ensures equipment is working properly.Keeps vehicle clean and in efficient operating condition.Participates in on-going training to improve knowledge and skills.
Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent and a State of Tennessee Paramedic License. Must meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Medical Standards.
Must be twenty one (21) years of age.
LICENSES REQUIRED:Valid Driver LicenseLicensed by the State of Tennessee as a ParamedicCertification in Advanced Cardiac Life SupportCertification in Basic Trauma Life Support (BLTS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) (within the first six (6) months of employment).
FAILURE TO MAINTAIN LICENSE OR CERTIFICATIONS WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION.Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
