Supervisor: Kelly Rosa

Salary: Range 51 - $39.81 (step one) - $50.47 (step ten) Hourly*

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, our core business hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Work Location: Seattle Courthouse, KCCH; In-person/telecommuting hybrid with supervisor approval.

This paralegal provides traditional trial support to two VCU DPAs. In addition, this person supports the Felony Traffic deputies.

Felony Traffic Unit (“FTU”) handles every vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, hit & run (death) and felony-DUI in King County. The FTU paralegal supports the Seattle DPA and Unit Chair in all cases filed in Seattle. Because we handle our cases vertically, the FTU paralegal supports the unit with cases on both the pretrial and trial tracks. The FTU paralegal may be asked to track down witnesses, locate and order certified priors (this is much broader than judgment and sentences), find the City Attorney or DPA in handling a case of a defendant in a municipal or district court; obtain requested DOL information, assist with search warrant review documentation (prefiling as well as post filing), order jail calls, and ensure digital evidence is sent to defense counsel. The FTU paralegal calendars bond, violation, plea, and sentencing hearings. The FTU paralegal sends requested materials (e.g., motions and orders) to defense counsel, submits order to the agreed orders queue, and files pleadings with the Court. The FTU paralegal ensures that defense attorneys have discovery from the discovery unit and provides discovery on an ongoing basis as it arrives.

Meetings: FTU has a full unit staffing every other week with the Chair, both DPAs, both paralegals, the FTU restitution investigator, and all the FTU advocates. Additionally, we try to ensure a daily check-in between the Chair, DPAs and the paralegals.

  • Arrange travel and housing arrangements.
  • Review and interpret legal documents and explain legal procedures to victims, witnesses and the public and perform related work as required.
  • Other responsibilities may be added or changed as business needs evolve.
