The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission is recruiting

for a Paralegal 1/2 located in Juneau, Alaska!

What you will be doing:

As the CFEC Paralegal, you’ll never be bored!

You’ll learn to independently perform a variety of hearing-related work (e.g., legal and general research, case briefing, drafting legal documents, case preparation, hearing scheduling and coordination, evidence management, customer support, and more).

You’ll also learn to independently perform work associated with the limitation of fisheries in Alaska (e.g., applying complex regulations to evaluate limited entry applications, calculating and applying qualification formulas, playing a role in designing and using systems to manage the process, and more).

As one of CFEC’s Records Officers, you’ll learn to independently manage CFEC records to ensure compliance with confidentiality policies, governing law/regulations, and the CFEC Records Retention Schedule (RRS).

You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with ADF&G staff across Alaska as you learn to independently manage confidential fish tickets.

Finally, you’ll enjoy variety as you work with not just the Hearing Officer, but the CFEC Commissioners, and Law Specialist with other projects as opportunities arise.

Our organization, mission, and culture:

Become a part of the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (CFEC) which works to conserve and maintain the economic health of Alaska’s commercial fisheries by limiting the number of participating fishers.

The Commission issues permits and vessel licenses to qualified individuals in both limited and unlimited fisheries and provides due process hearings and appeal processes for disputes related to permits and fisheries limitations.

As CFEC’s Paralegal, you’ll enjoy becoming an important and respected partner in a small team environment where:

  • You will put your intellect to work every day and enjoy finding answers to challenging legal questions.
  • You will be respected as a valued team member who is learning to be a full partner in legal research, legal writing, regulatory improvement, policy analysis, fisheries limitations, and so much more.
  • Your growth and continued education in the legal profession will be encouraged, valued and supported and friendly mentorship will always be available.
  • You will be encouraged to innovate, improve processes, create new systems and contribute to steady improvement and innovation.

You’ll work with positive, supportive, collaborative, and creative team members – all working to build and maintain a pleasant, positive work environment where everyone thrives and grows.

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game strives for a diverse and inclusive workforce where safety and well-being are paramount, and employees at all levels promote a culture where everyone is valued, treated equitably, and treated respectfully.

Benefits of joining our team:

While the CFEC team does experience ‘peak’ seasons, we value a work-life balance!

You’ll be part of a small team where you’ll enjoy opportunities to collaborate on some challenges and opportunities to work independently on others.

You’ll find plenty of support and encouragement to embrace continuing education opportunities to accelerate your knowledge and your career, and readily available positive mentorship and support.

The working conditions you can expect:

CFEC offices are located inside the Jordan Creek Mall in beautiful Juneau, Alaska – not far from the Mendenhall Glacier.

The inside mall location makes breaktime and lunch walks comfortable and accessible regardless of the weather, and you’ll have opportunities to get out of the office from time to time to visit our records archive facilities near Lemon Creek.

Most important, you’ll enjoy working with a team of bright, dedicated individuals who appreciate a work-life balance.
