This job involves leading a team of paralegals in Alaska's Office of Special Prosecutions, where you'll support victims and witnesses of crime by explaining their rights, providing case updates, and connecting them to resources.
You'll also assist the prosecution team by handling legal tasks, preparing for court, and building partnerships with law enforcement and other agencies.

What You Will Be Doing
In your role as Paralegal Specialist 1, you will supervise a team of paralegals in tthe Office of Special Prosecutions and help members in your community who are directly impacted by crime and help victims and witnesses understand their rights and navigate them through the criminal justice system.
This includes providing them updates throughout the life of a case as well as informing them of resources available to them.
You will also play an important role of the prosecution team working through the criminal justice system to resolve legal issues, including building relationships with other agencies such as law enforcement, court personnel and victim advocates.

You can expect a 40 hour work week; 12 paid holidays; personal leave accrual starting at 6 hours per pay period (about 21 days annually) and increasing with years of service.
The general office hours are 8:00AM to 4:30PM but there is flexibility in establishing your regular hours around core business hours.
The Working Environment You Can Expect
In our office, you will be a team leader and work in one or more areas of law in addition to remotely supervising the paralegals in the Office of Special Prosecution. The office environment is friendly, fast-paced, and never boring. The work will require minimal travel.
This position is located at 310 K Street, Ste 701, Anchorage, AK 99501. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
You will supervise 5 paralegals, work with 19 attorneys and 6 support staff located in Office of Special Prosecutions.

Post-secondary and/or vocational education in a legal, paralegal, criminal justice, or similar legal support area and/or progressively responsible experience providing a variety of legal support in either the legal, law enforcement, legislative, or social service field; or practice in social service field with experience in either the legal, law enforcement or legislative field.
Special Note:
Positions may require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public upon hire, and to be able to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Enforcement Information Center/National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NCIC/NLETS).
