Job Description

Summary

This job involves investigating cases for parole and pardon decisions by talking to people like law enforcement, judges, victims, and families, while gathering details on criminal histories and managing related paperwork.

It's a non-sworn role focused on supporting the parole board without carrying a badge or gun.

A good fit would be someone with experience in criminal justice fields like probation, corrections, or law enforcement, who is organized and good at building professional relationships.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma with 3-5 years of relevant experience in criminal justice (e.g., probation/parole, law enforcement, corrections, or armed services)
  • Associate’s degree plus 2-3 years of directly related criminal justice work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (may substitute for required experience)
  • Ability to conduct community contacts and gather/confirm criminal conviction and supervision history details
  • Skills in maintaining investigation documents, initiating legal reviews, and monitoring problem cases for resolution
  • Strong professional communication and networking inside and outside the department
  • Willingness to work in the Lowcountry area of South Carolina (office location to be determined)

Full Job Description

*Responsible for completing Parole and Pardon Investigations in the Low State area. Office location TBD.

Responsible for non-sworn Probation and Parole Law Enforcement Officer duties by completing Board related investigations.

Executes community contacts with law enforcement agencies, judges, victims, inmates’ family and other community resources.

Gathers and confirms details regarding criminal convictions and supervision history.

Maintains documents related to all investigations; initiates legal review of problem cases; monitors all problem cases to ensure swift resolution and prevent hearing delay; maintains a professional communication network inside and outside of the Department.


Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor’s degree may be submitted for the required program experience.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree and 2-3 years of work experience directly related to criminal justice (i.e. probation & parole, law enforcement, corrections) or armed services; or a high school diploma and 3-5 years of the aforementioned relevant program experience.
