Key Requirements

  • Special certifications in industrial safety, health, processes, or equipment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions, prepare detailed reports, and work independently
  • Valid driver's license with clean 10-year motor vehicle record
  • Physical ability to travel extensively, climb ladders/stairs, stoop/kneel, work in varied indoor/outdoor environments, and pass medical clearance for respirator use

Responsibilities

  • You will attend and complete all modules of the SC OSHA Training Course and the basic course development class at the OSHA Training Institute.
  • You must learn and demonstrate hazard identification and recognize industry standards as methods of remediation for workplace hazards, participate in mock scenarios, and demonstrate knowledge of the inspection process.
  • With guidance, you will conduct programmed and un-programmed inspections of facilities and/or construction sites to ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • You will prepare and submit written inspection reports of violations and recommendations of citations, penalties, and abatements.
  • You will evaluate safety and health programs for adequacy and make recommendations for improvement.
  • You will collect and evaluate data, complete and submit weekly logs, and complete other required reports and paperwork.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs. (A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and some experience with Occupational Safety and/or Health programs or an associate’s degree in industrial safety and health (or closely related curriculum) and 3 years’ experience in occupational safety and health.
  • Any special certifications in the fields of industrial safety and/or health, their processes or equipment would be an added benefit.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and prepare detailed reports.
  • Must be flexible with a changing work schedule.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computer technology to make presentations.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Extensive travel with frequent overnight stays.
  • May require extended periods of driving, sitting, and visiting facilities that are non-ADA complaint.
  • Ascend/descent ladders and stairs.
  • Stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with various terrain.
  • Ability to determine and identify hazards in the work environment.
  • May be required to pass a medical clearance and fit test for respirator use.
