Job Description

Summary

This job is for an Off-Park Ranger at Dreher Island State Park, where you'll help run daily operations, maintain facilities and grounds, handle revenue collection, and step in for the park manager when needed.

It involves a mix of administrative tasks, hands-on maintenance, and ensuring visitors enjoy the park's trails, lake access, and fishing spots.

A good fit would be someone who enjoys outdoor work, has experience in park or facility management, and is comfortable with physical labor and flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Full Job Description

Dreher Island State Park spans three islands, 348 acres and provides access to 12 miles of Lake Murray shoreline. Visitors will find recreational water activities, nature trails and some of the best striped and large-mouth bass fishing spots, all only 30 miles from Columbia. It has long been a popular location and launching spot for major, national fishing tournaments.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher-level employees.

1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department guidelines and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
2) Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
3) Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards.
4) Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, retail operations and facilities.
5) Assists in control of inventories of equipment, supplies and retail items by issue, use and counts; completes data reports.
6) Work to accomplish the mission of the Park Service through the core values of Stewardship and Service.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the park and/or region, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Requirements

Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
2) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Actual Job Location: Dreher Island State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
