The Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 638 commissioned law enforcement and corrections staff and 67 civilian personnel. Together, these dedicated employees support our 3 bureaus, including Administrative Services, Corrections, and Operations.

You will join a team or unit located at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters or Jail. This position may involve exposure to the inmate population in our maximum-security correctional facility or review of confidential and sensitive information, including crime scene photographs, videos and/or reports.

This position is part of an Office Assistant series that offers a great foundation for future advancement within the Sheriff’s Office and Pierce County. You will gain a broad knowledge of the department and may have an opportunity to transfer to another unit within the Department. Additionally, you will receive on-the-job training from administrative staff and have access to LinkedIn Learning to further your growth as an administrative professional.

Requirements

This position performs varied administrative and clerical support work for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. Work is procedural in nature and involves different and unrelated moderately complex processes and methods. If the position is assigned to the Corrections Bureau, work is performed within the confined area of a maximum security correctional and detention facility and may involve exposure to an inmate population.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:

  • One year of general clerical work experience. Additional education or related experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required.
  • Age eighteen (18) at time of appointment.
  • United States citizenship, lawful permanent resident or DACA recipient, and the ability to speak, read and write the English language as required by RCW 41.14.100.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS FOR OFFICE ASSISTANT 2:
  • After the closing date, qualified applicants will receive an email with a link to an experience and training assessment.
  • Individuals attaining a passing score of 70% or higher on the Office Assistant 2 assessment will be placed on the Civil Service register in order of final score.
  • VETERAN'S PREFERENCE / SCORING CRITERIA: Veteran's Scoring Criteria will be granted in accordance with RCW 41.04. IF YOU ARE CLAIMING VETERAN'S SCORING CRITERIA, PLEASE ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR MILITARY "DD FORM 214 MEMBER- 4"* TO THE APPLICATION.
  • Candidates will be referred from the register to fill vacant positions occurring within one (1) year from the date the name is placed on the register.
