Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves working at the front desk of the Washington State Parks headquarters in Lacey, where you'll greet visitors, answer questions about parks and programs, sell merchandise, and handle discount passes and permits.

Position Status: This is a permanent career seasonal position. If hired, you would return to the same position every year for the duration of the season. Season dates are from May 1st (5/1) through October 31s (10/31), yearly. Staff who work in the State Parks Information Center and Headquarters lobby, provide information about parks and programs to the public. They are the face and the voice of the agency, as they help people navigate agency web sites, plan vacations, connect with other staff, and provide education about the discount pass and permit programs. They also process applications and issue the agency’s discount pass and permit programs.

The agency’s core values, mission, vision and strategic plans are focused on delivering responsive and excellent public services that result in high public participation and satisfaction; earned revenue; and increased public advocacy and support for the park system. The Information Center’s office assistant has a key role in agency success around these goals.

This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions.

Staff on the Washington State Parks Information Center team play a pivotal role in connecting people to our parks.

This position provides critical peak season support to the agency’s statewide centralized customer service team and discount passes and permits program.

Located at the State Parks headquarters office in Lacey, this position services as a public point of contact providing reception duties, answering questions and making connections across the agency.

Requirements

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves customers by providing reception at the front desk.
  • Provides Parks merchandise sales.
  • Issues employer loaner badges.
  • Responds to customer phone and email inquiries.
  • Mails State Parks information as requested.
  • Issues discount passes and permits to approved applicants following established procedure.
  • Supports discount passes and permits program management, duties may include scanning, mail collection, inventory management and inventory fulfillment.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One (1) year of office experience including filing and data input.
AND
  • One (1) year of experience working with a multi-line phone system, answering customers questions, and responding to customer comments.
  • Basic level of proficiency and knowledge with Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One (1) year of customer service experience.
  • Ability to solve simple mathematical equations.

Requirements:
Working Conditions: Position works five (5) days a week, Monday - Friday. Core working hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The State Parks Headquarters' Information Center and front desk is a busy office environment. Incumbent must be able to maintain regular and reliable attendance to accommodate office and customer demands.
