Summary

This job is for an experienced occupational therapist who helps patients improve their daily living skills, like dressing, eating, and moving around, through customized treatments in a county health setting.

It involves working independently on advanced therapies, guiding junior staff, and teaming up with other healthcare providers to support patients and families.

A good fit would be someone with a couple of years of hands-on therapy experience and a passion for patient education and community-based care.

Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals on a continuous basis to fill journey level Occupational Therapist positions. Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers, or the California Children Services Programs located throughout the County.

Occupational Therapist II is a journey level classification. Incumbents perform a full range of general therapy treatments with a greater degree of independence and proficiency, in addition to applying more advanced and/or specialized treatments. Incumbents may assist in providing technical advice and training to less experienced staff.

Requirements

Evaluates, plans and implements treatment including but not limited to the following areas:Self-care including feeding, oral bulbar function, dressing, grooming, bathing, skin inspection and toiletingFunctional mobility including positioning, transfers, wheelchair prescription and mobility training, topographic orientation, joint motion and muscle functionUpper extremity function, including prehension, coordination, range, strength, sensation, pain, joint protection and hand functionAdaptive/assistive equipment and splints including prescription, design, fabricating or applying selected orthotics or equipmentHome management including energy conservation and work simplification, budgeting, meal preparation, household tasks and group living skillsCommunity skills including shopping, use of transportation, safety, pre-vocational/vocational assessment and work skills, social behaviors, play and leisure pursuitsVisual-perceptual ability including visual scanning, figure-ground discrimination, vision, fields, spatial relations and visual-motor integrationMotor and sensory/motor developmentFunctional cognition including orientation, attention, memory, analysis discrimination, seriation, organization, categorization, integration, judgement and problem-solvingProvides technical advice and assistance to less experienced therapists and may assist in training them on the more specialized therapy treatmentsProvides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customersExplains occupational therapy recommendations to patients and their families and provides patient and family education and trainingProvides consultation and education relative to therapy treatment considerationsCollaborates with other care providers to ensure proper patient treatment and follow-upSecures and returns clinic supplies and equipment and maintains required records and statisticsPrepares reports of patient treatment, treatment and discharge, planning and evaluation of treatment servicesProvides training and work direction to aides, assistants, interns and volunteersConsults with other therapists as needed Qualifications License Required: Possession of a valid License or limited Permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as an Occupational Therapist.

Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.

Applicants must submit a copy of a valid License or limited Permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy AND a completed supplemental questionnaire.

An application submitted without a valid License or limited Permit and supplemental questionnaire will be considered incomplete and will therefore be disqualified. Additional Information 1.

Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.

Training and Experience Evaluation: Consists of an evaluation of each candidate's relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire (Weighted 100%).

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.CONVICTION HISTORYAfter you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer.

If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances.

Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County.

If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERAll Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law.

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
