This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C.M. Tucker Jr. Nurse Care Center-Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden St. Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Certified Nursing Assistant, you will perform varied and special assignments in giving personal care to the residents. You will work under supervision and established practices.

Responsibilities for the Certified Nursing Assistant include:
  • Perform and assist residents with personal cleanliness and hygiene (ADL's).
  • Feed and assist residents with meals, snacks, and supplements.
  • Observe, report, and document any changes in residents' condition and/or behavior.
  • Participate in restorative therapies according to care plan and individual needs. Participate in the Resident Care Conference.
  • Assist in guiding and helping residents by working with them in groups and individually, by planning and conducting group meetings, encouraging communication, self-esteem and socialization. Conduct selective individual and group activities.
  • Prepare and accompanies residents off the unit to clinics/MD visits and activities.
  • Perform nursing procedures and care per nursing policies. Assist the nurse and doctor with treatments and examinations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Must hold credential as a certified nursing assistant.
Additional Requirements:

Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs.

Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Have ability to maintain attention to detail, make accurate technical and physical observations of patients, accurately communicate and record observations, carefully read and follow direction, work a flexible schedule, work in a team environment, and lift and move patients.
  • Have basic life skills including CPR, AED use, and ventilations.
