About the Position: This position is located at Fort Cavazos, Texas. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for GS-05 Nursing Assistant: Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting care providers during examinations, procedures, or treatments/ or assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL); maintaining patient medical records/charts; and obtaining vital signs.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Takes and records vital signs reporting deviations to a senior member of the health care team.
  • Obtains blood and other specimens, provides appropriate labeling, and completes lab/X ray forms.
  • Transports patients via wheelchair/stretcher to wards, clinics, X ray etc.
  • Assists physician/physician assistant with procedures by handling instruments and supplies.
  • Performs catheterizations, irrigation's care of drainage tubes, suction, administration of oxygen, IPPB treatments, application of pressure to stop open bleeding.
  • Treats wounds, irrigates area, and applies dressing and bandages to wounds.
  • Performs various administrative support duties as assigned by charge nurse or shift leader.
