Job Description

Summary

This job involves coordinating patient care in specialty medical clinics within a federal prison, such as urology, surgery, and mental health, by scheduling appointments, managing supplies, and supporting healthcare teams to ensure inmates receive proper treatment.

A good fit would be an experienced registered nurse who is organized, skilled in patient assessments, and comfortable working in a secure correctional environment to help prepare individuals for community reentry.

Key Requirements

  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted professional nursing license from a U.S. state or territory

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.

Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirement: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor degree or master's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience that demonstrates extensive knowledge of professional nursing concepts, principles, practices and nursing standards related to medical and surgical nursing.

Experience in coordinating a variety of administrative functions for a health care clinic, including but not limited to equipment, appointments, supplies and policy.

Experience in performing ambulatory nursing, pre-op and post-op patient assessments, and prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care based on assessments.

Experience in communicating effectively with health care staff and patients in order to guide, direct, instruct, and relay information.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

**Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.** Major Duties:

Responsible for guiding and directing the patient care services provided to inmates assigned to various specialty clinics such as the Urology, Surgical, EENT, Orthopedic, OB-GYN, Neurology, and Mental Health specialty clinics conducted by primary care provider teams (PCPT) as well as external contract medical specialists performing on-site services.

Coordinates and provides patient care/clinical support.

Responsible for scheduling the outpatient clinics, serving as the contact person for communication relating to external contract medical specialists, which include gathering pre-clinic health information, receiving after-care reports, and scheduling related diagnostic testing.

Assists with the development and implementation of policies and programs related to specialty clinics.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
