Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a nurse aide in a Pennsylvania state prison, helping provide basic health care and daily support to inmates under the supervision of registered nurses.

Requirements

As a Nursing Aide, you will provide care in the following areas: Skilled Care, Personal Care, Outpatient, and General Population. This role will be directly supervised by a Registered Nurse. Some of the daily duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete basic nursing skills and nursing procedures to maintain optimum inmate health as well as provide quality care.
  • Complete any required documentation
  • Collect specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse for urine, feces, and sputum.
  • Complete or assist inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met.
  • Participate in Life Skills programming which involves following nursing care plan orders, providing care and interventions consistent with inmate’s needs, and documenting the assigned aspects of nursing care plan.
  • Participate in emergency situations by performing emergency procedures as indicated
  • Participate in emergency response drills

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hours
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts:
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Alternative work schedule may be available depending on operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
