Full Job Description

Merced County Department of Administrative Services – Information Services is currently accepting applications for the position of Network Systems Support Analyst within the Network and Communications Division.

This position is vital to Information Services and plays a critical role in implementing, maintaining, and supporting systems related to Network Infrastructure, Communications Systems, and Cybersecurity Applications and Infrastructures.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining these infrastructures.

The ability to work with multiple vendors and internal customers on various projects is desirable.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyze and define user requirements to include such aspects as operating mode, system software and configuration needs and interrelationships to be considered when integrating with the network system.
  • Install and integrate personal computer applications software and hardware.
  • Train users on personal computer application packages and the network system.
  • Troubleshoot routine software applications problems and works with users to recognize potential difficulties with the applications.
  • Diagnose application and/or network failures to isolate the source of problems between equipment, network components, and applications software or user.
  • Create project plans and maintain and track the progress of assigned projects utilizing work plans.
  • Maintain system and application level security of the network.
  • Develop interfaces between network hosts, servers and clients.
  • Evaluate new software application packages and acts as a software specialist answering routine questions of users.

Requirements

Network Systems Support Analyst I

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college majoring in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field. (Experience in programming and computer operation may be substituted for the college education on a year for year basis.)

Experience:
None

Network Systems Support Analyst II

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college majoring in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field. (Experience in programming and computer operation may be substituted for the college education on a year for year basis.)

Experience:
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience comparable to a Network Systems Support Analyst I.

Qualifications

  • Frequent operation of personal computer and other modern office equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with others in person, in writing, and over the telephone.
  • Analyze data, interpret directions, procedures and regulations, and develop appropriate responses.
  • Perform job duties under stressful conditions.
  • Lift and move with help objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Respond appropriately to situations.
  • Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations.
  • Repetitive motion, sitting for long periods, walking.
  • Occasional standing, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, climbing.
  • Constant good overall vision and reading and close-up work.
  • Frequent color perception and use of eye/hand coordination.
  • Occasional use of depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Normal dexterity with frequent writing.
  • Frequent hearing of normal speech, hearing/talking on the telephone, talking in person.

  • Frequent decision making, concentration, and public contact.
  • Some assignments may require working weekends, nights, and/or occasional overtime.
  • Occasional exposure to indoor industrial conditions including heat/cold, odors, or poor ventilation.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic methods, procedures and techniques used to support a network computer system.
  • Organizational and administrative methods.
  • Personal computer and micro- and minicomputer operating systems and software.
  • Data dictionaries.
  • Modern office methods, functions and clerical procedures.
  • Basic computer operation environments.
  • Network topologies and operation environments.

Ability to:
  • Install and configure personal, micro- and minicomputer applications software and hardware.
  • Identify and solve routine personal computer and network applications software problems.
  • Prepare clear, complete and concise work plans.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Train users in applications software.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
  • Comprehend methods, procedures and techniques used to support a network computer system.
