This will facilitate data informed decisions within a framework of transparency.This position is on the City of Norfolk’s network engineering team, within the Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Bureau of the Information Technology Department (IT).
The team performs design, configuration, installation, and maintenance of the City’s critical data center and wired/wireless network infrastructure, including but not limited to routers, switches, cabling, servers, network storage, and backup solutions.
The team acts in concert with other departmental functional areas, customers, and vendors, to assist in the implementation and maintenance of hundreds of applications and business processes.
Collectively, network staff provide essential support to all City staff and business functions
This position demands strong analytical, technical, and communication skills. Requirements include:
Communication and Customer Service: Writes clear and concise emails, memos, user and technical documentation, and status reports.
Correctly and appropriately answers customer questions about features, functions and operation of technology infrastructure and software.
Explains technology processes and policies to non-technical customers and management. Provides excellent customer service and support to all City agencies.
Exhibits outstanding email, telephone and customer service skills.
A successful candidate for the Network Engineer III position should display “Day 1” basic competency with at least 3 of the above business lines as determined by the judgement of the interview panel, and by the end of their 6-month probationary period with all of the above.
Specific care will be taken to ensure that new hires are exposed to all business lines, at the very least through basic instruction of function and process necessary to demonstrate the needed familiarity.
Additionally, a successful candidate should be highly experienced with using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. He/she should demonstrate or be able to show/describe past accomplishments in the following:
