The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, is recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex in Juneau.


This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing:

Interested in joining a cohesive, experienced team of professionals managing access and use of state-owned public lands?

The Southeast Region Office (SERO) is seeking to fill the Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex position in Juneau, Alaska.

We are looking for a curious, consistent, and productive individual with a capacity for research and an interest in public land management.

This position works directly with the public, municipalities, and other resource management agencies in overseeing lease and easement authorizations on state lands.


Mission and Values/Culture:

This position is housed in the Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

DMLW’s mission is “to provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.” The Southeast Regional Office (SERO) Lands Section supports this mission by facilitating the use and development of state lands and ensuring the public's right to access the state of Alaska's public lands and resources.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The position is located on the fourth floor at 400 Willoughby in Downtown Juneau; the location offers free surface or covered parking and provides easy access to all that downtown Juneau has to offer.

The daily work environment for DMLW-SERO is collaborative and supportive. This position requires a 7.5-hour daily work schedule. Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.

For purposes of the minimum qualifications, natural resource management is defined as the management of the land, water, mineral, forest, oil, gas, agricultural, archaeological, natural and cultural history, park, and related surface and subsurface resources.

Experience or education in natural resource management means involvement in the above resources exclusively.

Those with experience or education in managing these resources may specialize in different management functions (for example, planning, regulation, research or title).

All of this experience is applicable to the natural resource management definition.

Some positions may require education in a particular area of natural resource management or specific technical knowledge and training gained through specialized education or progressively greater responsibilities at the lower levels of the series.
