The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is seeking a Multimedia Storyteller - Communications Specialist IV.

WTD’s multimedia storyteller will play a critical role in helping advance public and employee understanding and appreciation for the work of the Wastewater Treatment Division in protecting public health and the environment.

This position is creative, social, varied, and fun – even as it requires adherence to high standards in quality, accuracy, and timeliness.

This position is ideal for someone who has the experience and skillset in multimedia production who wants to work for a mission-driven organization.

About The Role:

The Division is quite varied in its scopes of work – from operations to planners and community service staff – making for endless opportunities for storytelling.

The work we do is inherently visual, though mostly hidden to the public.WTD offers the creative space, resources, and opportunities to “peek behind the curtain” of our work and tell stories that have impact.

This person will collaborate with other communications professionals within and across the department to produce stories that are compelling, relevant, timely, and impactful.We want this person to be at the center of our storytelling strategy, helping our organization define to the public and our employees who we are and how we are making a difference in the everyday lives of King County residents.

This person will develop an ongoing body of work that supports our storytelling needs and connects to wider strategic organizational goals.

This includes creating story packages for our inbound and outbound communications channels, building our visual library, supporting events and other milestones, among other duties.

The Director’s Office Communications team leads and coordinates all external and internal communications and storytelling strategy for the division. We are a collaborative, action-oriented unit that works closely with all other sections of the organization.

Requirements

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Produce ongoing story packages, including reporting, writing, and gathering visual assets for use across multiple communications
  • Maintain social media calendar and ensure regular content and social engagement
  • Create visual assets and lead organization of components
  • Evaluate success of communications tactics through regular measurement and reporting of metrics

Qualifications

Qualifications You Bring:
  • Knowledge of photography and videography concepts
  • Skills in synthesizing and communicating, in writing, orally, or visually, technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Skill in taking the initiative to identify improved and/or more-effective communications strategies
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality photography and videography content

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

Work Location: The communications team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting.

The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change with some weekend or evening shifts possible .

The primary onsite location is the collaboration space at King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson, Seattle, Washington 98104.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.

The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.

Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by Local 117 WTD.
