Summary

This job involves driving large tractor trailers and other heavy vehicles over 32,000 pounds to transport cargo on public roads under various traffic conditions, often for the Air Force.

It may include occasional forklift operation and aircraft refueling tasks.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in heavy vehicle driving who is reliable, physically fit, and comfortable with irregular hours and travel.

The primary purpose of this position is to operate tractor trailers.

May operate other tractor trailers or other types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of over 32,000 pounds.

Drives vehicles on public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Other Conditions of Employment: Incumbent will be requires to perform frequent TDY by military air under arduous conditions is the performance of temporary duty assignments.

Other travel may be by commercial air, freightliner, truck or other motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.

Incumbent must possess or have the capability to acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and any required endorsements within 12 months of assignment.

This requirement is a condition of employment. Licensing of federal civilian employees in overseas areas will be governed by Status of Forces Agreements and/or host nation requirements.

Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Shift work may be required. May operate a forklift on a non-recurring or incidental basis.

This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.

Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Physical effort is moderate to heavy.

Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing.

Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Must mainitain appropriate security clearance.

The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds such as aircraft tractor trailers, truck tractors with semi or full trailers, heavy load in-line trucks, or interstate motor coaches Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo.

Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation including those specific to aircraft refueling tractor trailers.

Knowledge of regulations and procedures pertaining to refueling aircraft and the use of refueling vehicles and ability to operate vehicles and refuel aircraft safely.

Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc.

related to motor vehicle operation, power take-off unit operation, and preventive maintenance; and meet aircraft refueling/cargo pickup and delivery schedules/deadlines.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Operates heavy load tractor trailer aircraft refueling vehicles.

Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.

Maintains records and documents actions, such as records of fuel dispensed, operator inspection checklists/forms, and accident/incident reports. Checks fuel dispensed against records.

Uses two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
