This seasonal job with the National Park Service involves hands-on labor to maintain park facilities, grounds, trails, and buildings at Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park in New Jersey.
Workers will use tools and drive light vehicles to transport materials and perform tasks like clearing vegetation, repairing structures, and cleaning up litter.
It's ideal for physically fit individuals who enjoy outdoor work and have basic driving and tool-handling skills, with the position starting around May 2026 for up to about six months.
This position is located at Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park within the Facility Management Division.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform laboring tasks requiring moderate physical effort using hand and power tools.
Regularly operates light-duty vehicles (up to 10,000 lbs) to transport people, materials, and equipment to park work sites.
Typical entry on duty is Apr-May (may vary due to weather, project needs, or funding). Anticipated start: May 2026.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.
(SCREEN OUT) Driver's License (SCREEN OUT) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order). Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
Operates heavy power equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, chainsaws, brush cutters, chippers, snow blowers) and hand/light power tools to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails.
Loads and unloads materials; moves furniture; installs signs; paints tables and signs; maintains lawns and vegetation; collects litter; repairs fire pits.
Performs manual labor including digging, grading, breaking pavement, and mixing/pouring concrete, asphalt, and similar materials.
Moves heavy loads using wheelbarrows and hand trucks; cuts and clears trees and vegetation; stacks logs, lumber, and materials. Performs janitorial duties for buildings and grounds as needed.
This is a temporary seasonal appointment not to exceed 1,560 hours under the Office of Personnel management (OPM) approved exception.
