This job involves driving a large diesel truck with a semi-trailer to transport laundry loads between VA medical centers and a military hospital in Texas, including loading, unloading, and securing cargo safely.

Nonsupervisory work involving the operation of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and/or transport passengers.
The Primary Purpose of the Position is the operation of a diesel-powered truck tractor with up to a 53-foot semi-trailer in transporting laundry loads to and from the North, Central and South Texas VA Health Care Systems and Darnell Army Medical Center at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Good eye, body and limb coordination is necessary to properly operate vehicles.
When assisting in loading and unloading, will be lifting heavy bags of linens (40-75 lbs.) and pushing heavily loaded carts of linens onto and off of trailers.
Will require extensive stooping, bending, walking, lifting of supplies, equipment, etc., and pushing when performing tasks.
May have to change or assist in changing a flat tire./Driving will be accomplished in congested city traffic and highways. Incumbent must stay alert to avoid accidents.
Will be exposed to full range of weather conditions both good and bad. Must sit fir long periods of time when making deliveries. Major Duties:
Operates a diesel-powered truck tractor with up to a 53-foot semi-trailer in transporting laundry loads between VA Medical Centers in Waco and Temple and Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood.
The vehicle is equipped with four or more forward speeds with two gear ranges, and has two or more drive wheels.
The truck tractor is equipped with fifth wheel and such driving controls as gear shift, lever, brakes, accelerator, clutch, and air brake controls.
S/he loads and unloads laundry containers, makes difficult judgments regarding the arrangement of the cargo to prevent swaying of the trailer, and must secure the load to prevent damage to equipment.
She verifies the load and its security prior to each trip. Incumbent operates the truck and equipment in a skilled manner to prevent damage to equipment.
Will be required to sign for certified mail, patient belongings and valuables, and then deliver to appropriate officials and individuals at destination point.
Operates other vehicles and performs other tasks as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday Rotating Shift Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
