This position is in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area in Corpus Christi, TX.
The primary purpose of this position is transporting Veterans, visitors, staff and supplies and equipment from the main warehouse to various locations at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility and any additional location, i.e., Outpatient Clinic (s), National Cemetery, and VA Regional office, as needed.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.

Driver's License Requirement:Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement to operate a motor vehicle.

You will be rated on the following Job Elements as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Drive Safely Interpret Instructions, Specifications (mobile equipment operations) Motor Vehicles Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Reliability And Dependability Without more than normal supervision Work Practices PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee exerts physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate the vehicle's hand and foot controls; physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending.
Perform manual operating of lift when necessary. Physical effort is required to stoop, bend, and climb to inspect a vehicle, to lift more than a sixty-pound tire/rim combination to change tires.
In addition to the requirements described at the grade 5 level, greater physical effort is needed at the 6 grade level to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles.
Ambulance or patient transport vehicle drivers may be required to assist patients into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending.
Incumbent must pass a VA Physical and adhere to all VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing and guidelines.
WORK CONDITIONS: The employee operates vehicles in traffic and road conditions, including very congested urban traffic; interstate highways, city streets, county roads; rural unpaved roads; construction zones; and all-weather types.
Employee experiences a variety of working positions (e.g. stooping, bending). The incumbent is required to work indoors and outdoors, experiencing various weather conditions.
The incumbent is exposed to heat, cold, dust, rain, etc. The employee is at risk of exposure to dirt, fumes, grease, and other physical elements when setting up and tearing down MMU.
In addition to the working conditions described at the grade 4 level, drivers at grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
In view of the skill and knowledge required and the responsibility exercised, this factor equates to the 6-grade level. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates vehicles such as shuttle carts/golf carts, vans, pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
Handles cargo loading and unloading from vehicles to provide timely delivery of supplies and equipment directly to users or to storage areas and completes documentation to record activities.
Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity. Loads and unloads by hand but may use a handcart to transport items.
Protects materials, supplies and equipment from the elements.
Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies, equipment, and mail over Federal, State and Country roads in all traffic conditions, on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules.
Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include, but not limited to, the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure.
Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle. Completes all maintenance service records to document activities.
Provides courtesy rides to staff, Veterans, and visitors as needed to and from parking lots or garages and/or to and from buildings on the facility campus.
Assists in areas like the warehouse to receive, store, and move materials and equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
