The primary duties of this position include driving a box truck/cargo van to various buildings around the campus of the Richmond VA Medical Center.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/06/2026. Preferred Experience: 2 year driving motor vehicle experience.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Effort is required to control vehicles that carry large numbers or people or heavy loads. Make frequent arm and leg movements to operate various controls.
Driver may be required to assist patients into and out of vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stopping and bending.
Considerable physical exertion may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways.
Major Duties:
Major Duties and Responsibilities to include but not be limited to: Incumbent operates vehicles such as a box truck or cargo van (sprinter) with a gross weight of up to 26,000 pounds and operates a gate lift to carry out duties and functions for Nutrition and Food Service.
Incumbent vehicles operate over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions to drive and pick up items overlooked or missing from vendor deliveries; and is required to load and unload vehicles.
Incumbent transport, food service supplies, meal trays and other items essential to the services provided by Nutrition and Food Service.
The incumbent loads and unloads food trucks, assuring that cargo is protected from the weather and secured to prevent falling.
The position is responsible for aspects of the vehicle including maintenance and driving.
Incumbent is interior and exterior clean; for all record keeping of fuel, mileage, and reports to the GSA Motor Pool; and the accuracy of the monthly GSA billing, which includes reviewing the monthly gas bill to ensure it is accurate and notifying the motor pool for discrepancies in the bill.
The incumbent collects and files all completed motor vehicle trip tickets.
The position will promote positive customer service by providing supplies in a timely manner to meet Veteran scheduling, programming, and dining needs.
Additional duties include storeroom/ingredient control support.
Such duties include, but are not limited to, receiving and checking in deliveries from supply warehouse, prime vendor, bakery, dairy, and produce contracts; operating electronic power jack lift to move large pallets of food and nonfood supplies from loading dock to appropriate storage areas; assembling, weighing, and/or measuring ingredients for issuance from bulk stock; and processing storeroom requisitions for Veteran programs and transport supplies.
