This job involves leading a team of drivers in the Veterans Transportation Program at a VA hospital in Pennsylvania, where you'll schedule vehicles, assign tasks, and ensure safe transport for patients and staff using government vehicles.

This position is located within the Veterans Transportation Program at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Aspinwall, PA.
The Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor oversees the scheduling and assignment of Government-Owned and GSA leased vehicles used for various activities directly related to the mission of the healthcare system.
Driver's License Requirements (Screen-Outs): Applicant's must possess a current and valid state-issued Class B Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.

PLUS (SCREEN-OUT): You must have the ability to lead or supervise motor vehicle operators using various vehicles and ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the transportation system.
This includes experience coordinating and planning staffing needs, equipment and material; establishing deadlines, priorities and work sequences, work schedules on a week-to-week basis; operating and maintaining various vehicles; performing vehicle inspections; identifying vehicle defects; ordering and stocking of supplies, materials, parts and equipment; demonstrating a high degree of reliability and dependability; and excellent safety record.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The work requires periods of sitting through portions of the workday as well as standing and walking.
The person in this position exerts moderate physical effort used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to simultaneously operate hand and foot controls, and in normal driving because of the vehicle or equipment involved.
Physical effort is required in the frequent handling of patients including those in wheelchairs. May occasionally handle objects weighing up to 75 pounds or more.
Working Conditions: At this level, the person in this position performs a mixture of indoor and outdoor work.

May be exposed to congested traffic conditions, unsafe roads conditions due to ice, snow and rain, fumes and dust. Also, may be in contact with diseases from patients.
Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
Will drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
May be exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving.
Required to use protective personal equipment when transporting patients with communicable diseases.
Subject to bodily injury when patients require physical adjustment and are non-compliant with verbal directions from motor vehicle operator.

The major duties include but are not limited to: Plans and schedules subordinate's work, setting and re-arranging priorities and subordinates as needed on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis; Maintains and manages time and attendance for all assigned section personnel; Administers performance plans and counseling to subordinates; Monitors driver's performance during on the job (OTJ) observation (i.e., ride along during patient trips); Reconciles all VA-Owned vehicle expenses (i.e.
fuel, repair) as the Fleet Manager within the US Bank system; Reviews all Fixed Route Special Mode transports (i.e.
Wheelchair Shuttle) and provides Trip Verification; Conducts annual inventory of all Non-Expendable Property assigned to the section listed in the Consolidated Memorandum Receipt (CMR); Provides technical and supervisory guidance necessary to achieve the optimum use of service resource; Assures safety rules are properly adhered to within the section and during motor vehicle operations; Provides input to higher level managers on workload data, budget estimates, repair costs, motor vehicle trip logs and long-range work requirements; and, Performs other duties as assigned.
Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
